Costume Designer / Artist

Garment Construction & Props
My path to a career in costume design started in a quiet teaching studio in my hometown of Northern Virginia. One particular summer, my Mother decided I should try something new and came across a children's sewing class within walking distance of our home. Once I learned how to thread a machine, stitch forward & backward, and wind a bobbin, I was tearing my way through fabrics and making garments that *almost* fit me right. These skills were further developed under mentorship in the University of Chicago's costume shop.

But I wasn't interested in sewing just because I enjoyed designing for theater.

I secretly wanted to wear cool costumes too. Specifically the cool costumes in the comics piling up on my shelves and in the anime I was hooked on that season. I find that unearthing a visual identity for characters from within play scripts is just as exciting as interpreting gestural pen marks scratched into the panels of well loved comics. Is that line a skirt or a belt? How can I wear a living suit of armor? These are the challenges I love to solve in my "secret life" as a cosplayer.
